FRONT WALKOVER

DESCRIPTION

A front walkover is a skill that involves performing a continuous, fluid motion of walking over your hands and landing on your feet. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do a front walkover:

Step 1: Warm up! Start by warming up your body to prevent injuries. Perform some light cardiovascular exercises, such as jogging or jumping jacks, to increase your heart rate. Additionally, stretch your muscles thoroughly, focusing on your legs, back, shoulders, and wrists.

Step 2: Master the handstand position before attempting a front walkover, it's crucial to have a solid handstand. Practice your handstand against a wall to build strength and balance. Ensure that your arms are straight, shoulders are open, and your body is aligned.

Step 3: Step forward into a lunge ensuring that your front knee is directly above your ankle and your back leg is extended behind you.

Step 4: From the lunge position, reach forward with both hands and place them on the ground in front of you. Your hands should be shoulder-width apart.

Step 5: Shift your weight onto your hands by lifting your back leg off the ground. This action will help you transition into the handstand position.

Step 6: Once your weight is on your hands, use your dominant leg to kick up and push off the ground. Focus on extending your leg fully to reach a vertical handstand position. Keep your other leg straight and follow the momentum of your kick.

Step 7: Extend your back leg over your head as your dominant leg reaches its peak height, start extending your back leg over your head. Allow your body to naturally follow the motion of your leg as you transition from the handstand to an arched position.

Step 8: Keep your arms straight and your core engaged to maintain control. As your back leg completes its extension, bring your front leg down and land softly on your feet.

Step 9: Practice and refine Repeat the above steps until you feel comfortable and confident with the front walkover. Gradually work on improving your form, flexibility, and balance. Focus on executing the skill with control and fluidity.

Remember to always prioritize safety when practicing gymnastics skills. It's advisable to have a qualified coach or spotter present to provide guidance and ensure proper technique. Regular practice, patience, and perseverance will help you master the front walkover over time.
